PRCA 3330 – Millennial’s with Social Media on Our Side

Oh, being a Millennial. We have surely come to know the world much differently that our previous generations. We want everything faster, sleeker, and the most efficient. However, contrary to the popular belief, I like to think we still do value person relationships outside of the technological realm. We just use social media to update and keep touch when developing those face to face interactions aren’t possible.

The way that I would explain social media’s effectiveness in today’s business world is that it makes keeping in touch with your target audiences (and prospective audiences) easier. Now what business person would not want that?

I didn’t realize how social media could be effective to the real world until I took Public Relations classes here at GSU. I learned that we can disseminate information so quickly to our customers and to the press when we are linked in online. To be linked in means to be actively updating and participating in the social medias that people use nowadays, i.e. Facebook, Twitter, WordPress, Tumblr, the list goes on!

If you find one that your target’s and prospective’s use, make sure you have a dominant presence on that media. With the increasing availability and use of the internet, people are starting to expect more that companies will be in contact with them. This allows us to see if they like something or if they don’t, to inform about a new release or a modification/update to the company as a whole. People in today’s business world like to feel included and informed asap, and social media is the perfect place to achieve that goal.

If it intimidates you, start off slow. Sign up for an account on one website that you feel more comfortable with. Increasingly, over time, become more active on the page. With this practice, you will find your navigation skills flowing more freely and maybe then you could sign up for another site if you see necessary. Innovation never gets old!

PRCA 3330- Favorite Childhood TV Shows

If you had the power to bring back one of your favorite childhood TV shows, what would it be & why?

Extremely tough topic. Favorite, singular? Seemingly impossible. But, I’m going to have to go with Growing Pains. It was a tough selection process, but I figured this was the show that I could watch over and over even today (I would have picked Boy Meets World, but I still see reruns on today so technically it hasn’t gone away yet). The cartoons were great as well when I was young, Rocket Power, PB&J Otter, The Wild Thornberrys were more of my favorites.

I loved Growing Pains because it just made me feel at home. I felt like I was a part of the family, that I was safe. The issues and themes of the shows were situations that went on in my life at that time as well, mostly things I went through with my sister, fighting and bickering about stupid things. It was a familiarity and comedy complex that drew me in. Whatever the Seaver family went through, even if it was more trying, they always laughed, loved and learned about something subsantial.

I also feel like the producers of this show hired the actresses and actors genuinely represented the characters and their attitutudes. And okay, I admit, I was a little sweet on Kirk Cameron. But what girl wasn’t? I mean between Cory and Shawn of Boy Meets World, the gang from Saved by the Bell and this show, I feel like it was inevitable to crush on those boy-next-door roles the actors played. Overall, I enjoyed the life that the actors brought into the Seaver’s lives and would continue to watch that show today if it was still on TV.

PRCA 3330 – My Statesboro Favorites

What are your favorite things to do in the ‘Boro? If someone who had never been to Statesboro were to come to town, where would you take them? Why?

My favorite things in Statesboro are some of the people I know, Sweetheart Cicle, Snooky’s restaurant (tears..), the Farmer’s Market, Connection Church, GSU baseball or football games, and The Daily Grind.

I would take my visitor to meet my friends-practically-family that I have been blessed to know here. People I knew from back home, people I met here at school and at church. They are all absolutely wonderful and I know that my visitor would feel at home and welcome with them.

Sweetheart Circle is like my oasis. I would show my visitor the beauty of the trees and the warm sun and how amazing the grass feels between their toes.

Snooky’s was my one of my restaurants in Statesboro, and I pick it to take my visitor because it was the primary example of delicious, sweet home cooking and family in one place.

The Farmer’s Market is awesome! I’m really into fruits and vegetables and honey and fresh food in general, so this is my haven. I have to show my visitor all the cool stuff they sell!

Connection is my home church. This is the first place I really felt like I belonged. I want to show my visitor just how welcoming and loving and accepting people at church can be.

Georgia Southern baseball games are fun and relaxing but strategic and full of Eagle pride all at the same time. Football games are one of the staples here; they show how much students and the community love sports and the school.

Last but not least, The Grind. It is my favorite place to do homework, read, or meet up with friends. Not only would I show my visitor how delicious all the drinks/food is there, but there’s a back porch with adirondack chairs that are perfect for sunsets and a cup of coffee.

PRCA 3330 – Freshman Year

If you could go back to freshman year, would you do anything differently? If so what & why?

If I could change anything about freshman year, it would be how I tried to be someone who I wasn’t. I dyed my virgin blonde hair a shade of brown that resembled a mix of dark chocolate and raspberry, wore clothes that did not fit my personality at all, and deserted my love for being active. I wanted to be a Kristen Stewart lookalike because I was in love with Twilight… and yes I am aware of how ridiculous that was and am slightly ashamed of my actions. Why did I do that? I have no idea. I was at a new school, new life away from home, and the naive Freshman excitement flooded my brain and influenced me to want to be different.

Needless to say, thank God I have now embraced who I really am. And with that comes my natural hair color, being outside and active, and a comfortable style of good ol’ blue jeans, white T’s, and sundresses.  I think back on it now and the thoughts that fill my mind are always the same- overjoyed that I will never go back to that stage. It wasn’t me. And if I had the opportunity, I would just be who I truly am and not be so influenced by the movies I watched. But, then again, it’s all a learning process, right? Now I know- natural hair = always best, I am not Bella Swan nor do I want to be, and my body hates being sedentary. Cool! What’s next? :)
